hear about: to be informed, to gain knowledge about something
Example: Have you heard about the unrest in South Africa?
hear of: to be familiar with/ aware of something/ to know something exists
Example: Have you heard of the band Radiohead?
hear from: to get information from someone/ to receive communication from someone
Example: Me: Have you heard from Sam?
You: No, I haven't spoken to her yet.
