Hi, Rogue! 'Due' in this sentence means deadline, while 'wing or wing it' means do something without much preparation. hope this helps ^^

The meaning of "due" is "due to be given to the teacher". It refers to the deadline for the assignment. We use "hand in" or "turn in" with the same meaning as "give to the teacher".
