It's really exciting to hear the first cry from a newborn baby, especially when it’s your first-born. A baby’s birth usually brings a lot of things to a family. It brings new responsibilities for the father and the mother. All family members hope that the baby will grow up healthily. So, most families will give a new born a welcoming ceremony. In my country, a new baby usually stays at the hospital for one week after birth, so the doctors can keep him under observation and inject some vaccines. Meanwhile the mother needs to be treated well until they fully recover. Then the mother and her baby will be driven back home. The grandparents usually burn some grass or others things in a pot when the baby arrives home. Then the mother holds the baby and sits near the fire (not sure what you meant here). They believe that the fire can keep all bad luck far away from the baby. Of course, different areas have different baby welcoming customs, but they have one thing in common: everyone wants the baby to be healthy.
