What do you think about electric vehicles? Seeing electric vehicles on the streets these days is not unusual. But most of them are public transport such as buses and trams. This is understandable, as the introduction of environment-friendly vehicles has been a priority for many European governments over the past decade. I think it is a quite justified decision because this mode of transport causes less negative impact on the ecological situation in general, especially in large cities, which suffer from poor urban air quality and has a small number of green areas. At the same time despite the annual increasing of green areas for sustainable forms of transport in the cities, I see still a small number of private electric cars. Despite the ban of using some old cars, people are in no rush to buy electric cars or cars with bi-fuel engines. I can find at least two explanations for this. In all times people adapted hard the lifestyle changes, and the using new type of vehicles is not the exception. The second one and maybe more important that is the high cost of an electric vehicle. Many people are just cannot afford to buy a new electric care, moreover maintain it. As for Italy, where I live currently, there is another reason why you cannot see many electric vehicles on the streets: we have extremely small number of stations for charging this mode of vehicles. For example, in my city which has 65 thounds of inhabitants, we have only two places where you can do it. It is also important to take into account that the charging process itself takes time, especially in the cold season. That is why one of my friends recently has refused to buy a new electric car even if the price offering was acceptable for him. Do electric cars have a future? I'm sure they do. And I am also sure that one day they will be the dominated type of transport on our streets. But as we can see today this passage will take more time than we expected and will be more complicated than we imagined.
