Many Japanese learners find it difficult to sound natural, even when their grammar is correct.
Tanaka: 昨日、富士山に登ったんです。
("I climbed Mt. Fuji yesterday.")
Yoshida: へえ!富士山に登ったんですか!
("Really? You climbed Mt. Fuji?")
Notice that Yoshida doesn't simply say 「へえ」. Native speakers often repeat part of what they hear and respond naturally to sentence endings. This small skill helps conversations feel more engaging and natural.
😊Now it's your turn!
Tanaka: この間(aida)、家族(Kazoku)で旅行(ryokou)に行ったんだけど、泊(to)まったところがすごく良(yo)かったんだよ。
("The other day, I went on a trip with my family, and the place we stayed was really nice.")
Yoshida: ” ”
Imagine that you're Yoshida and Tanaka would like to continue talking about the trip. What would you say? There is no single correct answer. Feel free to create your own response. I'd love to hear different ideas from. Thank you.
