Do you read novels and books in your second language?

I am reading Brave Story by Miyabe Miyuki in Japanese nownow. My native language is English. It's a long book, but it is written for young Japanese teenagers, so it is not extremely difficult. I actually read the English translation first, each chapter, and then read the Japanese.

How about you?!

I am a book junkie(活字中毒), but it is not easy to access to novels in my first language as I live in overseas.  Thus, I desperately picked my first English book several years ago.  Since then, I have been constantly reading English books.  Recently, I become to prefer to read novels written in original language.

I am lucky because I have a walking dictionary, who knows exactly what I am asking even when I totally miss pronounced a word.  Because of him, I could remember a lot of weird spellings, like "gaol".  Then, I realised that I have always read a book with somebody since I was a child.  I was always asking someone how to read kanji and/or the meaning of words.  So, it may be a good idea to go to the library with study buddies and read books together.

I tend to read novels in English, whenever I read one I analyze it so it takes me ages! I look up the new vocabulary and underline the sentences that I think I might use. It was quite boring when I was reading books but with ebooks this is quite quickly as just pressing the word you get the translation. I think reading (anything) and listening to (anything) in the language you are learning is one of the best activities you can do.

Yeah, I've already read some books in English and now I'm reading a book in French, about the French spoken in Québec. As isaac, I usually use the time I spent in public transportation, when I'm going to work, to read the book.
