Hi guys! I wanted to find out why some of you are here on italki and what is it that you like best about learning languages. Is it a way for you to find out more about a specific culture, is it because it's practical in the real world, or is it simply because it sounds cool?
Personally, I love the way foreign languages sound because each language is so different and it's just amazing to watch people converse so naturally in a language you find incredible to hear.
What do you guys think?
1) I get upset when people are talking and I don't understand, I feel isolated. So if too many people I know speak a language, I have to learn it.
2) Obviously, sometimes a language can help find a job.
3) Everyone has to speak English and so do I, but I don't really enjoy
speaking English. I don't like the language as such, and I'm also not
happy that we are all forced to speak it whether we like it or not. So
I'm glad when I can speak another language instead. This is one of the reasons I've learned a few more languages.
4) I feel it is rude, disrespectful, and arrogant to expect people to speak English in a non English speaking country so I feel really ashamed every time I have to ask someone if they speak English.
I wouldn't just learn any language unless I have enough motivation for it and a goal, but I learn Japanese for a few reasons : Japan is one of the most developed countries in the world, also I feel like their writing is very unique. I got an interest for it from watching their animations and such similar stuff, and I also learn it because I want to study it at university in order to become a translator (or in another case an English teacher but I am not talking about this specific topic right now).
This one isn't a very important reason to me personally, but I kind of want to connect with other people too. The more languages I speak, the more people I can meet.
