I think what Josegal said is important. While I have been eating a plant-based diet for the last few years, I am hesitant to use the word vegan because I am not convinced of all aspects of the philosophy.
Nevertheless, I believe that a plant-based diet would benefit human health and the environment. Linda notes that some land cannot be used for crops, but that argument only applies to a very small percentage of meat. After all, if it were possible to meet the current enormous demand for meat using grass, that is what would be happening, right? It would be the simplest way. But, it is no more possible to support a huge population of animals without agriculture than it is to support a huge population of humans.
I hope scientists are successful developing lab-grown meat and milk. It has the potential to greatly help the environment and reduce animal suffering. It might still not be healthy to eat those products in large amounts, but it might be an improvement over the factory-farmed variety.
