I'm planning to spend a month in Italy with the sole purpose being to learn to speak and understand Italian. I'm currently thinking I'd prefer to stay in Milano but I'm open to other ideas. Does anyone have experience with a full immersion school?

Hello Mike, I cannot help you with schools in Italy, since Italian is my native language. But I can share with you my experience about "full immersion" in other languages. It surely is a good experience to go to a medium size city with cultural activities and were people are not too much stressed. I used to visit museums with local audio guides, go to theater, and to the movies, sit in cafés and listen.Besides collective courses I would definitely also take every day a private conversation lesson.
if I would have time and money I would choose a program which offers homestay at a teachers house.
For Italian I think Torino would be more relaxed then Milano.

Elfin, grazie. Ho pensato che Firenze o Venezia hanno troppo turisti. Anche Roma. Ma preferisco un città grande. Abito in campagna e mi piace visitare la città. Ho pensato che Milano sarebbe un buon compromesso. Che ne dice Turino?

My only thought is that perhaps for a month of full immersion it might not be the best place because many people speak English there as it's a big city and there are many tourists. If you have the opportunity of going to a smaller place with less tourism it might be better for learning Italian.
