It can also be used as a noun, a colloquialism.
"Carry Out" or "Take Out" is food you can order from a restaurant and not eat it there, but it is packed so you can take it home.
Most restaurants offer this service in the US. Some restaurants (especially Chinese and Italian/Pizza) are primarily Take Out and have very limited seating.
