What's your motivation for learning English at the moment? Is it for work? study? or perhaps even passion?

As a teacher I sometimes feel I have a biased perspective on this question as most of my students usually want similar things. Either they want to get through an exam to obtain a placement on a masters' course or they want to progress upwards in their career. But what about everyone else? Why are you here?

I'd love to hear.

English is language of the globe so we are obliged whether we like it or not , if we want to apply for a job we should be very good at English , if we want to travel to other countries we should be able to English very well because it's language of global communications

My motivation to learn English is my belief that it's one of necessities of the modern life to keep up with it.fortunately it is easier than other languages.

  • Diana Owaykn yeah, there so many good materials available for English. Other languages have them too, but not as many. I've been experiencing this problem with Russian, it seems all of the textbooks & materials were written in the 1960s. There have been many advances in learning and teaching styles since then!


  • Y. P. Yes, I totally agree. Learning a new language is so fulfilling. Plus if you get out and meet people to use it you can learn so much about different cultures. I think it really can change your life though, it depends on how you use it. You could try learning a new skill through English, for example. This guy has hundreds of online guitar lessons: <https://www.justinguitar.com/>. I'm not saying you should learn the guitar (or maybe you should haha), that's just one option. There are many other similar sites.

As for me it is a necessity of making my mind active as much as possible and also it is the way to stay young and fresh. And along with that I also get the great satisfaction from learning something new every single day. Although learning is not going to change my life at all, I have felt totally different from since I started learning more intensively. I’ve found fulfillment in it.

@Diana Owaykn you're right, it's true that a lot of companies these days are using English as a 'lingua franca' when they have employees from many different countries working together in the same environment. I read an interesting article on the BBC a short time ago actually, that  argued non-native English speakers were better international communicators because they have greater patience and use more common vocabulary. Do you Enjoy learning English though, or does it feel like hard work?

@Bita There are a lot of great English language magazines, a lot of which can't be bought in any other language. I think that's part of the fun. I read 'muy interesante' in Spanish and have been trying out various comics in French.

I like to read online magazines and stories ,I like languages in general so my second one is English
