Can VS Be able to I just want to know that what the difference between 'can' and 'be able to'.

Hi Josh,

For the time being, just worry about the grammatical structures, as Mohammad has advised.

We use can (and could) in a general sense to mean ability, possibility or permission, but the only pattern they fit is "can/could [verb]".  You have much more flexibility for "be able to": will be able to, had been able to, being able to, about to be able to...

The two words essentially have the same meaning but have very small (subtle) differences.  In Thai, the word 'can' would be closer to ได้ but the phrase "be able to" would be more like ความสามารถ.   

สามารถให้ได้ = I am able to give.   

ให้ได้  = I can give

They are the same, but in future tense u can use be able to. The usage makes difference
