White skin is one of beauty standards in Vietnam. Vietnamese people also care about beauty competitions especially "Miss universe Vietnam". In 2017, H'Hen Nie who is an E-de ( a minor ethnicity in Vietnam ) won the competition and became Miss universe Vietnam. However, after the event, many people did not agree with the competition's results and claim that she did not have qualifies to become Miss universe Vietnam just because of her dark complexion.
What about your opinions ?
It is true that in Vietnam people are crazy about their appearance and search very intensively the paragon of beauty.
While I was visiting the country, I was enchanted with popularity of so-called 'photosessions' with brides and newlymarried couples. Of course, this tradition exists in every country of the world nowadays. But in Vietnam it takes the first place in popularity, it seems to me.
Can you tell about this tradition? Why just in Vietnam it is incomparably popular?
Today, in many cultures like the USA tanned skin is a sign of health.
However, skin lightening cosmetics tend to be one of the biggest sellers in Asia.
Great conversation!!! So sad to hear that maybe in some cultures light is pure and dark is dirty. In the history of humans whenever a group of people was labeled as dirty they were shunned and cast out of the main group.
