Did you make a mistake and discover the mistake and fix the mistake... Tell us and Teach us

I often post discussions that show common mistakes that English learners make.

English Learners

But today I thought that everyone who is learning English has made a mistake and then discovered that the mistake was a mistake and then found the correction to the mistake.

Was your mistake the kind of mistake that other English learners make?

Did you feel like you would like to share the correction with other English learners?

Here's your chance. Post your mistake and correction here.

Everyone who knows something can be a teacher...

Native English Speakers

Some Native English Speakers (NES) have made the same mistake for years before discovering and correcting the mistake.
Are you an NES and would you like to post your mistake and correction?

We all make mistakes. Just a few days ago someone pointed out that i spelled 'you're'  as 'your'  on the discussion board. I think even perfectionists can make mistakes sometimes. Even people in America here, that have masters degrees can make spelling/grammar mistakes. Look at newspapers or even published books, even sometimes you can spot an error or two in those. I think the important thing is, if you spot an error in someones writing, politely let them know that they made an error and that you can help them fix it. Actually just a year or two ago i found out the following word is 'Kindergarten.'    not 'Kindergarden'    I had been spelling it 'Kindergarden' my whole life. I was shocked that there was no 'd' near the end.

Peoples' and people's I used to confuse, using either indifferently. I was unhappy with this doubt so one day I investigated and learnt the difference.

Also, given my age, I use some words which are now considered by some to be offensive. When I learnt them they were quite neutral, however. What I have found is that every few years, certain quite neutral words will fall in this manner, and will be replaced by either by a new word or spelling or a euphemism. The old words will then be censured. I have no idea why?

Mistakes are everywhere and might be more common than we imagine. In a mathsbook, for instance, there may be 1% of errors in the answers. Doubtless, this also applies to English etc.

Long before Descartes' "cogito ergo sum"* was "fallum ergo sum"**. Error is the human condition. A very amusing book on it is "On Being Wrong", by Shultz (I think?!).

*I think therefore I am. **I err therefore I am. (Descartes was already well acquainted with this).

SHOULD THE WORD INTERNET BE CAPITALIZED?

The question of whether the word internet should be capitalized is passionately debated.

The Associated Press Stylebook (AP) stipulates that internet and web (with reference to the World Wide Web) should be lowercased. The AP is not the first style guide to insist on downcasing the word internet; many other publications prefer the lowercase form as well.

Studies related to the frequency of use show that the capital-I Internet spelling accounts for about 54% of all examples.

The lower case spelling is more prevalent in the Uk and the upper case (capitalised/capitalized) form in slightly more common in the US.

So, it appears both spellings are equally acceptable.

Yes I did mean the shift key that has the same effect. But without "locking" everything on Capitals until it is pressed again.
