Notebooks and Q&A
If a teacher or tutor only participates in discussions but neither corrects students' notebooks nor answers questions in the Q&A section, does it say something about a teacher?

I don’t care whether a teacher participates in the community or not. And to be honest, I think it’s unfair to expect teachers to provide a free service in order to make a living. No one goes to a dentist and asks them to do a filling for free just to see how good they are. And teachers already have a low hourly wage, especially online, so they might not be able to afford to do things for free. I book a trial lesson and that’s how I decide whether the teacher is good for me or not. I actually don’t even look at the community points. Helping students for free is nice but not required.

My Spanish teacher is nowhere to be seen on the community sections but she's good at what she does and a nice person. I would therefore not make any non causal inferences. Besides, Abdullah's point is valid. It's not a mandatory part of professional services but it can be either a kind gesture or even indirect self advertisement depending on how one looks at it.

Discussions are a pleasure, corrections and answers are mainly not. They are sometimes interesting. I even wrote comments to notebook entries several times as they contained interesting stories or unusual opinions.
As for questions, googling and dictionaries will provide reliable answers faster in 60+% of situations. Though it may be really challenging for beginners. I personally ask some simple and maybe unreasonable questions about German. My excuse is that my German is too poor to surf... ) Perhaps guys asking that sort of questions in other languages feel the same.
