What are your favourite dutch quotes/proverbs? Mine are these:
1. Alles komt op zijn tijd
It makes me think that patience is a remedy for a lot of things, and the person with patience is a winner in the long run
2. Leder nadeel heb zijn voordeel
Every disadvantage has an advantage.. I am pretty sure it was first coined by famous dutch revolutionary football player Johan Cruijff. (Who also happens to be one of my favourite football players of all time)
I like this one: "Als de wijn is in de man, is de wijsheid in de kan".
When the wine is in the man, the wisdom is in the jug.
If you're learning Dutch, please note that the word order in the first part of this sentence is actually wrong. This is necessary to make it rhyme. Bonus points if you can make it grammatically correct :)
'Van een koude kermis thuis komen.'
Translated into English: To come home from a cold carnaval.
You use this expression when something didn't go according to plan, or when something went wrong.
