In Texas the first thought is usually either "invasion" and "build a wall" OR "they were here first" and "even the road signs should be in Spanish".... all depending on you personal bent. 

Personally, when I myself think of Mexico my first thought is "food poisoning", since that was my most vivid and extended memory of visiting your country. :O

A reasonable strong economy, not poverty. Okay it is not the USA, but it is not central Africa either. Drugs wars. Sombreros. Acapulco. And one nice friend I had that lived there. The match Mexico against the Netherlands in the latest worldcup.

Poverty.
