It depends on the situations.

Personally or professionally I don't mind either but it must be truth.

Never could be a virtue if that is not truth.

In our personal lives, we can be direct but not blunt or insensitive.

In our professional lives, directness costs dearly. 

Hello! I think it is good "be direct in saying things";  you shoud know how to say (things), to avoid hurt people.

I think it really depends of the person. Some need to be direct in what they are saying and they need to receive things directly too (I think about bad news), but others need the contrary, to understand the bad things or to tell it because it's hard for them to say (or listen to it). So it's both :)

i think we need a grey area here, it cant be total black or white.
