Hi Jo. That’s a good question! Italki is a place where teachers earn their living They charge for lessons because it’s their real job, like working in a language school. Teachers here often help students with occasional questions on the community noticeboard but they don’t give free lessons. We wouldn’t go into other people’s workplace and ask for things for free, so it’s the same principal here.
