Hi Sarah! Hit and beat can mean different things depending on the context.
Both words can mean to physically hurt someone. But to hit someone usually means to hit him only once. To beat someone, on the other hand, usually means to hit someone multiple times.
"Hit" can also mean to reach a certain target.
"Beat", on the other hand, can also mean to defeat someone.
Another definition--- In the expression "Beat it", you say this when you want something or someone to go away.

As the other comment mentioned, hit can mean one strike. You can also use it as a counting word sorta e.g. he hit me multiple times.
Beat has a sense of hitting a bunch / making someone hurt. E.g. he beat up the poor person.

Beat is a much stronger word, meaning doing great damage to someone. I could be by kicking them , punching them whipping them of hitting them with an object. Hit is usually with an open hand but you could hit someone with an object, also.
