grading words in Korea: 수우미양가.
grading system in Korea: 수우미양가.
When I was in a middle school, maybe same for students all over the world, the most nervous moment was the day that I got a report card. with trembling hands, I got my report wondering if I got low credit and make mom disappointed.
There were some comments of teachers how to study my week point and recommends for my future in it. But what caught my eyes in the report were words which indicate my credit, 수,우,미,양,가. Because my mom disappointed when I got 미, 양, 가, I've thought 수 or 우 means very good and good, and 미, 양, 가 are normal, bad and fail. But I was so surprised when I know the meaning of 미,양,가.
수(秀,brilliant) means it is especially nice. 우(優,Enough) means it is enough to be nice. and 미(美,beautiful) means beautiful and good. 양(良,good or kind) means good. Last one, which has meaning that made me surprised, 가(可,possible) means There is enough possibility to be good.
Now, I'm in college and I usually got credits in the alphabet so I don't use those words. But someday, if there is a chance to change grading words, then I want to recommend 수우미양가, the best way to show students credit that I know.
