16.11.2019 (Day 9) In the past, for example in Ancient Greece or Ancient Rome, there were students studied mathematics as well as rhetoric, religion, music, philosophy, and writing. It was quite a wide choice of disciplines. But nowadays universities and colleges are focused on a specific subject. Sometimes students have superficial courses and classes of other disciplines, but most of the time they concentrated on the specific ones of their major subject. Some people consider, that it's impossible to have the whole pattern of the world without knowing different disciplines because you are not able to get the connections between things; Every person should be versatile, developed in arts and technical science equally. While some people support that statement, others are against it and I'm one of them. In my opinion, if we were taught a full range of subjects, we would not know our specific subject in depth. Time is a pretty limited resource of our life. I guess we don't have enough time to learn everything in the world. Therefore the conception of the division of labor is so popular in the modern world. A deep understanding of your field, being a professional is more valuable today. It is very useful to know everything, but people have a limited time for an education. The conception that students should study a full range of subjects is very impressive but now mankind decided to divide labor. Because of that the professionals, who were taught a specific subject in depth, are more in demand. In conclusion, I see no reason to substitute some specific subject to a wide range of disciplines.
