a scary case tonight I had a scary case tonight. I was woken up tonight by the strong noise of the explosion and failure of something from the kitchen. I got up and went to the kitchen. There was a big pan with glass saucepan lid on the stove. All glass of the lid was broken for small pieces and failed into the pan. It turns out that in the evening when my wife was cooking, she, by mistake, put the lid on the gas for a few minutes. But why it happened after several hours in the night I don't know.

[1] 'Tonight' is implied by the previous sentence, so you don't need to write it again in this case.
[2] The lid being glass is also implied by the previous sentence.
[3] I would probably rephrase and say, 'But I don't know why the lid broke several hours into the night'.
