Hey Lucy. This is probably because written english is different to spoken english, often we use different words.. just like Chinese. Also in England we have many different accents depending on where we are from. I am from Manchester but I have a different accent to my friends in London. This makes hearing english even more difficult as we say the same words slightly different. But dont worry, I recommend you watch some english TV online and speak on skype with native English people to practice listening to english. Then you will get better, Good Luck =).
