Guys: do you always like fair-skin girls or tan is ok too?

A lot of Chinese guys like girls with fair skin, seems they find that tan girls are not as pretty...like me.

My skin is dark for a Chinese person; I was born this way. So when i was a little girl, I was persona non grata with the classmates, especially the boys, they thought i'm ugly..and i always wanted to have fair skin ,and i got a little self-closing (or I had low self-esteem) at that time. (the way you put it isn't an Americanism)

But now, i like my tan skin,and i think that looks more heathy，and makes me unique. I think it's a beautiful skin color, and i know i'm not ugly at all, so i'm get more confident.

But i'm still confused, i just can't understand why a lot of Chinese guys don't like tan girls.

So guys, where ever you're from, can you tell me which kind of girls do you prefer?
