verb+した and verb+していた , 動詞（どうし）の勉強（べんきょう）, Study of verb

These are notes from my session with Sato sensei

This is what I learned:

動詞（どうし）の勉強（べんきょう） , Study of verb

勉強した ---> studied 勉強していた ---> I was studying

寝る（ねる）---> sleep ✓　Do you know how to say you are sleeping?

寝た(ねた)--->slept  ✓　Do you know how to say you were sleeping?

昨日（きのう）は、早く（はやく）寝た（ねた）---> I slept early yesterday. ✓

ねていた ---> was sleeping
昨日（きのう）の夜（よる）は、寝ていた（ねていた）--->Last night, I was sleeping



昨日（きのう）の夜（よる）は、雨（あめ）が降っていた（ふっていた） ---> Last night, it was raining

Well Done! 

We use "V+してた", but it is a very colloquial expression. It should not be used in any formal situation (both in written and spoken). I recommend you to remember the formal way "V+していた" at the moment(*^^*)
