Today's news. Today's news. Headline: South Africa rhino deaths hit record high in 2014 South Africa possesses 20,000 rhinos, around 80% of the world population. This year 1,020 rhinos have been poached despite government’s warnings. Curbing the slaughter of this endangered species is not an easy task for South Africans, so authorities came up with different solutions. They are deciding to transfer some rhinos to "safety zones", some areas in neighbouring countries. Moreover, authorities have arranged a deployment of the army including surveillance with helicopters. Why rhinos are so worth to be poached? The answer is found in their horn made of keratin and used in medical treatments especially in Asia (you can blame me ;)) A giant and illegal business, nasty to fight , so some politicians suggested to legalize the trade of rhino, hoping it somehow would help to minimize the demand and save the species.
