smushed up against Have you ever put on a pair of pants and then much later realized that there was a loose sock smushed up against your thigh? (Laughter) Good. This is part of the lines that I picked up from the Ted talk and I don't get this 'a loose sock smushed up against your thigh' part. Given that everybody is laughing, it seems like funny thing might happen to you quite often though. Is this situation referring to you wearing pants not really knowing a dirty sock stuck inside or torn-apart pieces of a sock all over your pants being taken out of your laundry machine and worn. Pls help me out with the answer and correct my writing as well if that's ok with you. Thanks in advance. You are the angle. :)

smushed/mashed /scrunched/crushed/stuffed... up against

Have you ever put on a pair of pants and then much later realized that there was a loose sock smushed up against your thigh? (Laughter) Good.

This is part of the lines an extract from the transcript that I picked up from the a Ted talk
and I don't get this 'a loose sock smushed up against your thigh' part.
Given that everybody is laughing, it seems like a funny thing that might happen to you quite often, however though.

Is this situation referring to your wearing pants not really knowing unaware that a dirty sock is (or even underpants) stuck inside? YES
or that torn-apart pieces of a sock or lint are all over your pants being just taken out of your laundry washing machine and worn. NO

Pls help me out with the answer and correct my writing as well if that's ok with you.
Thanks in advance. You are the an angel. :)

I can imagine a person pulling off their pants and their socks happen to get pulled off too. Then the socks are in the pants and maybe if they are a little lazy they forget about it and put the same pants on the next day. I might have done this a few times as a teenager :) It could also have gotten stuck there in the drying machine.

Actually, I'm the same as Jenny - I think it's strange - under what circumstances would a sock be "smushed up" against your pants? How does one wear a pair of socks such that they end up on your thigh squished inside your pants? Is it a common thing in the West? Regardless of how I imagine it, that makes no logical sense to me.

Last line I think you mean"You are an angel" but it sounds a little odd.Just say "thank you very much for your help" or something like that.

Yes it means that the sock is still inside the pants from the last time you wore them and you don't see it. Smushed is just like squashed. The sock is not torn or old,it is just still inside the pants and then when you wear the pants again you don't know the sock is there so it becomes squashed inside but next to the top part of your leg.
