Diary 2: my father
my father was born in 1948 before the China PR was established. He had been a soldier for 3 years in peace period then became a teacher in primary school until he retired. But he was always not a permanent staff so that just had a little salary for 30 years (I'm not sure what you are trying to say). There are many teachers just like my father that received low wages in the remote poor villages of China. At the same time, my father's medicine store had made profit for a short time with the help of my mother. My family had a half acre of farm land around the village in the mountains. My mother cultivated the land with only a hoe and reaping hook for the remainder of her 47 years until her she passed from lung cancer caused by my father's smoking. A 47 years old lifespan is the average life span in North Africa.
Two years after my mother passed away, I went to college far from my hometown. My father has brought another women home to live with him before I graduated, and they have a good relationship now.
Nowadays, my father has very serious health issues like asthma and diabetes. He can't run the medicine store. He lives on retirement pension--It's enough for him. For the past several years , the government increased salaries for old teachers who were not permanent staff. But my father is not good at cooking or cleaning the house. The woman with him has been ill for many years and her sons want her to be with my father. My father refuses my invitation to come with me to the city. He loves his place where he was born and lives.
I really want to live with my father, but it's not easy. I want to improve his life, but that's not easy either. I also have low wages. I need more money and I also need to change my career or my job. I have a big sister who has one son with her husband. They live in another city and take very good care of my father. Emigrating to Australia is a feasibile plan for me to increasing money.
