Learning vocabulary with Anki - Part 1 (Basics) Anki is a software I am using for learning English vocabulary. I did not test many other but I think it's the best program for this purpose. And it seems to be well known all over the world. So if you do not know it yet - check it out! You can use it on any platform (Mac, Windows, Linux and even on iOS and Android). Everything is for free – just the iPhone-version costs 25 € but it’s worth every cent. The mobile version is very useful but it works well without it too. Attention: There are free rider in the App store. Take care to download “AnkiMobile Flashcards” from Ankitects Pty Ltd. and not “Anki App”. Best is to visit the homepage on http://ankisrs.net and go via the download section there. I use it on Mac and on iPhone. On my desktop computer I enter new words and on my smartphone I review them. You can use Anki just as it is. But one key feature of this software is that it’s highly configurable. And there are many plugins to extend. You can even use it to learn other things than just vocabulary. Actually some years ago I was listening the talk of a law student who used it for learning legal stuff – with great success.
