Expand your Indonesian word for "Very"
In, Indonesian, when we want to say things like,
"Ahh...the price is very expensive!"
Then there are number of "Very" word that you can use, and they are:
1. Amat
2. Sangat
3. Sekali
4. Banget
Even though these words have the same meaning, they have different level of formality and structure in a phrase.
In regards to the level of formality,
1. Amat : Has the highest level of formality which you would normally say for instance, in a meeting.
2. Sangat and sekali : Have slightly less significant level of formality but is still considered formal and acceptable in almost everyday life situation.
3. Banget : is the colloquial form of the above three words. It is widely used by most of Indonesian. Can use this word to someone you know well.
Regarding to the structure,
1. Amat and Sangat are used before the adjective ex: Rumah itu sangat besar! (That house is very big!)
2. Sekali and Banget are placed after the adjective ex: Rumah itu besar banget! (That house is ver big!)
Practice!
How would you say this in Indonesian? the first one has been done for you as an Example!
1. Talk to your mates that the "Nasi goreng" is very spicy.
"Nasi Gorengnya pedas banget!"
2. Talk to your supervisor that the bus was very late.
3. Talk to your mum that the tea is very sweet.
4. Talk to your girlfriend/boyfriend that she/he is very beautiful/handsome.
Hints
Bus = Bis
Late = Terlambat
Tea = Teh
Sweet = Manis
Beautiful = Cantik
Handsome = Ganteng
