We were waiting a long time . The words sound better in this order UNLESS you are trying to emphasise the time: We were a long time waiting. This use feels special and marked whereas the other is much more common. More advantages than disadvantages is also a common collocation.

Contractions: You're is okay for informal writing. You are is better for formal writing. The choice depends on what your are writing. This piece feels informal and chatty to me. To make it feel formal you just lose the contractions.

*wrong word: Planed = The wood is planed (smoothed by a machine or tool). Planned = past tense of plan.
