Diary Entry for February 2nd

On the way home, we met a man who was selling popcorn. This popcorn is different than that which is sold at the cinema. Since Most popcorn at the cinema is made by machine, but this popcorn/the popcorn he sells is handmade.
While we were walking along a street, we found a man was making popcorn and selling it to the passerby (note: you don't need to include this sentence since you've already mentioned that you've saw a man selling popcorn in a prior sentence). The man had a metal and sealed pail. He put some corns into the pail and sealed it. Finally, he put the pail over the fire while turning it constantly/while constantly turning it. After about 15 minutes, the man took off the pail and open the lid. Then the pail gave off a big sound since there was a high atmospheric pressure within the pail. Then the delicious popcorn was done!Furthermore, the 1kg popcorn only need to pay was only 10 RMB!<hr>

Hi Dahlia,

I know how to make popcorn at home without a machine!

First, heat a medium sized pot with about 1 tbsp of canola or olive oil until it smokes.
Once it starts to smoke, add 1-2 kernels of popcorn to the pot. Cover with a lid and occasionally lift the pot and move the kernels by shaking the pot forwards and backwards. Once you hear the kernels pop, add 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels (or enough to cover the bottom of the pan in a single layer of kernels.)
After you've added the kernels, cover, and, like before, occasionally lift the pot and shake the pot front to back. Keep doing this until all the kernels have popped and remove the pot from the heat.
Now, you can lift the lid, and you should have freshly cooked popcorn :)
Cover the popcorn with butter, salt, or any other topping of your choice.

Enjoy!
Sara
