La Sayona I remember when I was a girl, in the afternoons my dad used to listen to the radio on our way to my school for home. We listened to music, news, interviews, but our favorite programme it was myths and legends in Venezuela. Although I was a little girl, I used to love to listen to scary stories, my favorite called “La Sayona”. It was the story of Casilda, a married youth lady who had a six months old baby. One day Casilda saw a man beyond the garden stared at her. Worried, she went through the garden and asked him what he was doing, he said that he was there because he needed to tell her something, that her mother and her husband were having an affair. Jealous and furious she came back to her house, took gasoline and a lighter and burned out with her husband and baby inside. After that Casilda ran to her mom house. At the moment she crossed the door her mother was sitting in a chair reading a book. She started to stab her in the chest. Her mom crying and screaming that she didn’t have anything with her husband, but Casilda didn’t hear her. Before died Calsida’s mom cursed her own daughter. At the end Casilda killed herself but she didn’t die, she turned up in a ghost. It is popularly believed that “La Sayona” (Casilda) it is now walking along the countryside’s roads. A beautiful woman with long black hair, that wore a “saya” (white sleep dress), who attracts men asking them for lift and they are on their way she kills them. :)
