It's a way of doing something or something that has been done. Can also relate to vicinity. Best to look how it's used in sentences "by the way" "2cm by 4cm" "I am coming by" "I will be travelling by plane" It's a strange one, it can be widely used but it's also quite specific. In Xhosa and Zulu we often use a very important phrase "by means of" which I think is a really helpful context in any language. L
