Regarding the few corrections I suggested above, as other teachers said for the use of 'εδώ' in line 2 of your text, this is a common expression in Greek. It is a way that we use to express the idea that it's been a long time since something happened, to show surprise, as well as to emphasise the essence of the situation at hand. For example: "Δεν έχω λάβει γράμμα της εδώ και 3 μήνες" (I haven't received a letter from her for 3 months) '... στην Αθήνα, στην Ακρόπολη, άνοιξε...' In this case, I suggest this order of the words as on this occasion 'Ακρόπολη' explains/defines where exactly in Athens the incident took place. This helps the reader understand where exactly in Athens the incident on the news took place. It is a simple way to specify. 'Όταν το ακουσα ήμουν ενθουσιασμένος...' Here, I suggested a slightly different structure of the sentence as I thought that the meaning was: 'When I heard that I was excited like a child on Christmas day'. 'το' = 'that' on this occasion. As for the syntax, in modern Greek the word order for sentences starting with a time definition usually has this form: Time (όταν, με το που, πριν, αφού, κλπ) + Pronoun (με, σε, το, την, τον, μας, σας, κλπ) + Verb For example: "Όταν το είδα, ενθουσιάστηκα." (When I saw it, I got excited) "Με το που τους γνώρισε (εκείνη), ταράχτηκε." (As soon as she recognized them, she got upset) Πριν σας δω, δεν περίμενα ότι θα έρθετε. We use εδώ και (πολύ καιρό, x μήνες, μέρες etc) to indicate that we have or haven't done/seen/experienced something for a long time.
