Hello native English speakers. Thank you very much in advance. There are real 8 sentences but I extent them to turn to become more than 8 by the form of each group, where my queries occur about which is grammatically correct. 1. A: He spoke politely to your sister. Ba: And he did to me too. Bb. And he did so to me too. Bc. He did so to me too. d. He did so to me. Question: Which of group B is grammatically correct? 2. A: Did Peter take a plane to New york today? Ba: No, I don't think so. But his wife did to Chicago. Bb: b. No, I don't think so. But his wife did so to Chicago. Question: Which of group B is grammatically correct? 3. A: Do they buy their drinks at the local supermarket? Ba: No, but we do. Bb: No, but we do so. Bc: No, they don't but we do the same. Bd: No, we do it. Question: Which of group B is grammatically correct? 4a. She lost her money, I wasn't surprised that she did. 4b. She lost her money, I wasn't surprised that she did so. Question: Which is grammatically correct? 5a. I like saxophone, and I always have. 5b. I like saxophone, and I always have done. 5c. I like saxophone, and I always have done so. Question: Which is grammatically correct? 6. A: The old man fell on his way to church. Ba: I'm sorry to hear that he did so. Bb: I'm sorry to hear that he did that. Bc: I'm sorry to hear that he did it. Question: Which of group B is grammatically correct? 7. A: John abandoned his car during the last snowstorm we had. Ba: I wonder why he did so. Bb: I wonder why he did that. Bc: I wonder why he did it. Question: Which of group B is grammatically correct? 8. A: I haven't got time to get the tickets. Ba: Who's going to do it? Bb: Who's going to do so? Bc: Who's going to do that? Question: Which of group B is grammatically correct?

#1 None is wrong, but none is as good as "and to me as well". #2 None is wrong, but none is as good as "I don't think so, but his wife took one to Chicago." #3 None is grammatically wrong. I don't understand the meaning of (c) (d) sounds odd. Better: "No, but we do that." #4 Each needs to be two sentences, or you need to insert "and" to make a proper compound sentence. Better: "She lost her money, and I wasn't surprised." "She lost her money, which didn't surprise me." #5 Only (a) sounds good. "Done" what? "Do" expects some action. "like saxophone" is not an action. These work: "Do you like saxophone?" "Yes, I do." "I like saxophone, and have always." (5c) is acceptable, but "done so" adds nothing of value and feels awkward because "so" refers to some specific action and "liking" isn't really an action. #6 All are correct, but none feels natural. These feel natural: "I'm sorry to hear that." "I'm sorry to hear that he fell." #7 All are fine. They all work because "so", "that", and "it" refer to a clearly stated action. #8 None is good because "it", "so", and "that" do not refer to any clearly stated action. What's the action? Having time? Getting the tickets? These two thoughts compete with each other. Better: "Who will get them?" ("Them" clearly refers to "tickets")

1:Ba,Bb,Bc-d is incorrect because it lacks "and" and "too". The conjunction joins both sentences to mean the second part is referring to the first or is the continuation of the first part, the "too" indicates the previous part of it were "and he did so to me" or "he did so to me too" it would have been correct. 2:Ba,Bb 3:Ba,Bb,Bc- d is incorrect because of the missing "but" which shows that you are bringing a different point. 4:4a,4b 5:5b,5c -all are grammatically correct but in 5a the second part of the sentence has a different meaning which is ownership. 6:Ba,Bb - the "it" in Bc doesn't sound grammatically correct to me. 7:Ba,Bb - the "it" in Bc doesn't sound grammatically correct to me. 8:Bb,Bc - Reason why not Ba is the same as number 6.
