what is it in English? parents are invited to schools about two or three times a year for the purpose of getting to know their children's performance at school. they sit in the classroom and listen to the class teacher introduce the class situation which includes class activities, exam results, class prizes and so on. in chinese, we say "家长会",which means a meeting for parents. what's the word in english? some "important" parents, usually those who are rich or of high status, form a committee on the demand of the school so that their children can get better and special care at school. we call it "家长委员会", is there an equivalant in english?

家长会 - We don't like parents coming into class. The teachers hate it, and above all the children hate it. It is one of the most embarrassing experiences to have your own mum or dad watching the class! Parents' meetings are held in the evening between teachers and parents. 家长委员会 - This kind of stuff is frowned upon in England. It is probably illegal as it is considered discrimination.

We call them parent teacher interviews in Australia. Also parents can join the School council. If a child has a learning problem or a disability then that child will get extra help. If children are gifted, they can apply to be accepted at schools which have a gifted children's program [ accelerated learning class] where they can finish high school more quickly than others.

Also called a parent-teacher interview. Not unusual in English speaking countries for a parent to want special treatment for the child but it would be by individual parents and not based on connections. It is possible for an ethnic or religious group to want special treatment based on different values and work together. Those groups would often be those who feel disadvantaged by the mainstream culture and not the well connnected.

In English we call them parent-teacher conferences. This is when the parent comes to the school, meets the teacher and visits the classroom as you have described above. The committee equivalent is the PTA (Parent Teacher Association).
