The verb is "grow".
(It is not "grow up" or "grow along".)
"up" and "along" are prepositions with meanings you already know.
1. up the tree - the meaning is obvious
2. along the tree - the meaning is obvious

I want to demonstrate following sentences:
1. There are climbers(climbing plants or creepers) that grow up along the surface of tress.
2.I grew up along the bank of the river the great Ganges.

第一个:A plant grows up the surface of the tree 是生长在树的表面,是长在树上的
第二个:A plant grows along the surface of the tree 是沿着树生长,就如藤蔓一样
