if you just wanna learn Mandarin,<单身男女><山楂树之恋><非诚勿扰><失恋33天>are good movies,they are very popular among young people in China,but if wanna study chinese culture i think <墨攻>is a good choice.its about Mohist thought which include universal love,besieged city.Mohist is the one of thought in pre-Qin period,moreover i think u heard Zhuangzi(庄子）Confucius（孔子）Han Fei Zi(韩非子）and so on.they were wise philosopher in ancient of China.

I liked "The Legend of Yip Man" -- about Bruce Lee's teacher. It is a martial arts film of course, but there is some emotional depth to it.

I have a large collection of Chinese movies and dramas. Most of the movies are Hong Kong movies although you can change the dubbing to Mandarin. One of my favourites is Love on a Diet with Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng. Somebody on here recommended a drama called Startling by each Step or Bu Bu Jing Xin, I've found this with English subtitles and it's awesome. It's a period drama about a girl who wakes up in the body of a 16 year old princess in the Qing dynasty.
