you say "Do I sense a little hostility" in English when what you really mean is"Why are you being so hostile". Is it somewhat like euphamism, trying to hide what you truly mean so as to be polite, or trying to be humurous?
If i've not got you wrong, The same is true with Chinese. The difference is that we use“意见“ instead of "敌意"( equivalent of "hostility ") , because "敌意" is a word too heavy and impolite in Chinese. so the most appropriate Chinese equivalence for "Do I sense a little hostility", I think, is "你好像对我有意见“,但是如果你很生气时,说“Why are you being so hostile",汉语就可以说:“你怎么这么跟我过不去?“
