What does "sit in the food" mean? In the sitcome Friends, Phoebe describe a guy taking his Thanksgiving Dinner as "He just sat in gravy.". How can a man sit in gravy? In another place, we can also see the phrase as "How to sit in the right food to eat" . ( from the website: http://www.finaltry.cn/read.php?4417) What does "sit in the food" mean?

vicky_shen, In the sitcom Friends, Phoebe describes a guy taking his Thanksgiving Dinner as "He just sat in gravy.". How can a man sit in gravy? Unfortunately, you are reading from a bad transcription of what Phoebe actually said in that episode of "Friends". Here is the actual dialog: -Eww. -What? Ugly Naked Guy's taking his turkey out of the oven. -Who cares? -He just added gravy. (NOT--->He just sat in gravy.) Oh, my God! He's not alone. Ugly Naked Guy is having Thanksgiving dinner with Ugly Naked Gal. I gotta see this! All right, Ugly Naked Guy! Ugly naked dancing! It's nice that he has someone. Ugly Naked Guy - A fat naked man that lives in an apartment across the street from Monica's. They can see right into his apartment when looking out Monica's window. ------ "How to sit in the right food to eat." is simply gibberish. I went to the site. http://www.finaltry.cn/read.php?4417 The English used on that site is all substandard. The sentence "How to sit in the right food to eat." is simply bad English, most likely a bad translation from another language. In fact, all of the of the English used on that site is substandard.

I'd understand it as, "you enjoyed the food so much (or you ate so voraciously), you may as well have been sitting in it."
