Is "backen" a strong verb or weak?
Hello, could you please help me with this..
backen bäckt buk gebacken or
backen backt backte gebackt
which is right? if both, which is more common?

It used to be strong but nowadays it is more and more used as a weak verb.
In Fairy tales we still find the form "buk", but in modern literature and in daily speech we use "backte" . But the participe II is still "gebacken".
So, sie backte Kuchen, der Kuchen wurde gebacken.
