我觉得你应该多使用普通话,多结交一些能和你用普通话交流的朋友。如果居住在中国那就更好了,环境能帮助你。你可以学唱一些中文歌,从简单的开始学起。如果可以,可以参加一些比赛,像“汉语桥”就挺好的。

What does "fluent" mean? You can be verbally functional in maybe 1.5-2 years in China. Learning in school though? I majored for 4 years, took an intensive summer in China and newspapers are still baffling. The writing system is the hardest part.

So, it depends per person and how dedicated you are. However, in order to be fluent it would take at least some years. Don't expect miracles

According to the U.S. Foreign Service Institute, achieving "General Professional Proficiency" in Chinese requires approximately 2,200 hours of study, while for French, it would only take around 600-750 hours for a native English speaker. However, even if you were to put the rest of your life on hold and dedicate yourself entirely to studying Chinese, spending 5 hours practicing each day, it would still take you 88 weeks to reach your desired level of proficiency, according to this data. From my personal experience, I have not yet encountered anyone who has achieved this level of proficiency in such a short period of time. In my experience and what I have seen from others, in order to pass the HSK 5 test, you would need to study Chinese full-time for about 1.5 years, and it would take at least another year or maybe 1.5 years to reach HSK 6. These estimates assume that you live in a Chinese-speaking environment and study Chinese full-time. I have met several people who have mastered Chinese in four years, meaning they can talk about complex topics, write business emails in Chinese, and read a newspaper. Most of these individuals have lived in China the entire time, studied Sinology as a major in university, or are married to a Chinese person. If you're interested in my personal experience learning Mandarin, how I managed to pass the HSK 5 exam and got accepted into a purely Chinese-taught university program at a film school in Beijing, feel free to check out my YouTube video. I talk about the challenges that I faced when studying Mandarin and my experiences living in China.
