Apply to or apply for?
I know both are correct but I still don't understand how to use each of them.

You apply for the job you wish to have.
You apply to the people or company that will give you the job.
If you put them together, the sentence would be:
I applied to the company for a job.

If this is related to the university application process (посутить), then "apply to".
If it is related to work (наниматься), then "apply for".
You apply TO a university.
You apply FOR a job.

Well, according to me:
"to apply for" means "to postulate" as we say: "to apply for a job".
"apply to" means "to put" : "Apply the soap to your skin to wash it".
Hope I am right :D
