What's the meaning of " get a hold of ". Please explain with examples. Thanks.

To communicate with someone. Example: I'm trying to get ahold of everyone to tell them the party is tomorrow.
To obtain something- get hold of something. Example: I finally got ahold of that book you said I should read.
