(a) we should refer to "a kind of THING" you see, rather than a kind of THINGS.
(b) "things of a kind" is a rather awkward useage. It would be simpler just to refer to sentences as follows:
What kind of a thing is it?
It is the kind of thing where a particular kind of care is necessary.
What kind of a thing will work in this situation?
We need to chose the correct kind of thing to answer the test question.
How many different kinds of things are there?
