IT LITERALLY MEANS to destroy the bridge after crossing the river (idiom)  but it is a  figure of speech or expression which means " to abandon one's benefactor (helper) upon achieving one's goal" this means after somebody helps you you betray them or you are not nice to them you don't treat them well or you forget about them,
