what does "tata" mean?
my dentist asked me to "tata" (that's what i heard). at first i didn't know what that was then the dentist tapped his teeth rapidly.
after i got back home i tried to look up the word in dictionaries on Internet. but failed to find the right word with a right meaning. any help? thanks!he asked me to do what he did (tapping the upper and lower teeth together rapidly) to see if my teeth were fixed right. doing this will make a sound as "ta ta ta ta" but i don't know if that's how the word is written and where it originated.

The other expression that is close to "ta ta" is "ta-da," which means "voila, there you go!" If he said "ta-da" at the end of whatever procedure he was doing for you, that is an expression that means "we're done." However, that would seem rather overly slang-y for a dentist to say to a client whose native language is not English... You got me beat! It might help if you tell us what you did in response to his request. This might give us a sense that you did what he wanted you to do, and give us a clue as to what he might have said.

I have never heard of that use. 'Ta ta' is sometimes uses as a slang for goodbye in England, but it is old fashioned. I can't gues what (s)he was trying to say.
