Scampi is a type of lobster, technically.  In the U.S., however, "scampi" is also a preparation method.  So, you will often hear of "shrimp scampi," which simply means that the shrimp is cooked with a butter/garlic sauce.

To me, they taste pretty much the same. I guess to some people though, as "scampi" is a type of lobster, they may have a taste resembling lobsters as opposed to prawns.
